Carol Jean

Rand

Obituary

Carol passed away peacefully on October 10, 2026, with her immediate family by her side. She will be deeply missed by all who knew and loved her.

Born on Aug 6, 1957, at Portage and District General Hospital, Carol and family were immediately on the move to places like Germany, Saskatoon, Rivers and back to Portage la Prairie, due to her dad’s Air Force postings. Portage la Prairie was the last one, as the family had grown to 7 children by then.

Carol was predeceased by father Edwin (aka Swede), mother Melrose, brother Allen and sister Karen. She is survived by her loving husband of 35 years, Paul, son Devin (Aimee), grandchildren; Olivia, Liam, and Lucy and Molly. Also, son Marvin Dyck and grandsons Shane and Brendan Unrau; brother Don (Lou Anne); sisters; Arlene, Charene and Judy, special family friend Ray, as well as numerous extended family and friends.

Carol had fond memories of growing up as a base kid at CFB Portage, enjoying Girl Guide and Teen Town activities, and making some lifelong friends. She also spent a lot of time at the library, being a passionate reader.

Other passions included; being a mother and grandmother, the Bombers and Jets, Bailey, her grand dog, cooking/baking (especially special dishes for the grandkids).

Carol spent most of her working life with Scotiabank, starting as a “Teller” and advancing to other jobs in loans and financial planning, and also sub-branch manager at the Portage la Prairie Mall. She especially enjoyed helping first time buyers find a home. She was with the bank 32 years, mostly in Portage la Prairie, but also Edmonton and St. Albert, Alberta.

Carol was often depended on for her ability to plan and organize, from dinner parties, to family trip itineraries, to large family reunions; and the myriad of daily activities. She was generous, caring, clever, had a good sense of humour, and a great work ethic.

The family extends a warm thank you to the staff at Portage Cancer Care and Palliative Care for their special support over the past several months.

As per Carol’s wish, a private Celebration of Life will be held at a later date.

For those who wish, donations can be made to Cancer Care Manitoba, 675 McDermot Avenue, Winnipeg, MB R3E 0V9 or PAWS, 121 - 12th St. NE, Portage la Prairie, MB R1N 4A2.
